If anyone ever dreamed of staying in an American east coast romance, we would like to recommend a visit to the Elizabeth Pointe Lodge. It’s located directly on the ocean on Amelia Island in the north of Florida.
Arriving at Elizabeth Pointe Lodge is like this: you turn on to the coast road of the Amelia Island peninsula, cruise slowly past the old wooden houses and from afar you can see the majestic, pretty New England guesthouse in an exposed location by the beach. The evening check-in is accompanied by two glasses of wine and crackers, on the house, then you occupy your lovingly furnished room with a sea view, which makes you feel as if you’re in an east coast romance. Then, the same evening, you are advised by the friendly staff of the various dining possibilities and you decide on Le Clos, a French restaurant, after which you turn into the hotel’s own parking garage to round off the evening. Outside is the murmur of the ocean, inside flowery bedsheets. The next morning: Breakfast on the wood-paneled terrace with the morning sun and a view over the ocean, and having muffins, bagels, fresh coffee and eggs benedict.
After this the guest can choose a deckchair on the beach and immerse himself in the book he brought with him and forget that he is here on Amelia Island and that he’s parked in the tourist State of Florida.
When is it most beautiful?
Probably in the low season, meaning between the beginning of October and the end of November or in Spring, April, May and the beginning of June. The high season begins after that and the hotel is nearly always fully booked.
What does a room cost?
Double room from 150 dollars in the low-season. Bed & Breakfast & free wine reception at 5pm.
How do I get there?
The best thing would be to include Amelia Island on a trip along the east coast. For example to start your car trip in Charleston, South Carolina, and to cruise slowly south. The nearest international airport to Amelia Island is Orlando, alternately Savannah or nearby Jacksonville.
