The Mama Thresl in the Austrian Alps is already high up in the rank of unconventional hotels. But it is important to know that this pad is more suited to the younger generation.
Mama Thresl is the brainchild of Renate and Huwi Oberlader, who are well known by the travel experts for their quite lovely Chaletdorf Priesteregg. However, their baby, Mama Thresl, is a completely different hotel as the the one in the neighbourhood. Thresl is more like a kind of motel, to which particularly young people will be attracted – when they come to the beautiful “Leoganger Steinberge” for the skiing, mountain biking, paragliding, mountain climbing or other activities.
But Mama Thresl is a well thought out, modern hotel concept, tailor made to the desires of the new generation. It goes without saying that the whole building has Wi Fi access as well as uncomplicated breakfast, which isn’t served from eight till nine, but from 07:30 to 11:00 or even longer.
All the rooms are completely furnished in wood, not very large, but to be honest: which of these young sporty types do sit in their hotel room all day? The design is a mixture of chalet and a modern log cabin, the showers are open and made of stone and every day a bottle of fresh mountain water is made available just for your survival. In the evenings waiters are happy to serve you cocktails in Mama Thresl and a DJ plays you jaunty music.
Up on the roof there is a wonderful patio, under which you find the not insignificant wellness area with a sauna with a beautiful view into the Leoganger mountain range and there is even a climbing crag located in the foyer.
All the young and young at heart, who want to let their hair down at Leogang and would like to sleep in wooden rooms for a relatively reasonable price.
Mama Thresl is everything but a hideaway – those who are planning to go to bed at ten, should ask for a quiet room.
