Some hotels feel like a discovery. Modest from the outside, but once you step inside, full of character and charm. That’s the Ullrhaus, the creation of Franziska Gfall-Alber and her husband, Michael Gfall. Both are deeply rooted in St. Anton, and what they’ve built is more than just a hotel: it’s a passion project that blends design, warmth, and a strong sense of home.
The Location
The Ullrhaus enjoys a location that is, quite simply, first class. This 40-room design hotel sits right in the heart of St. Anton, directly across from the Galzigbahn lift, the gateway to one of the largest and most exhilarating ski areas in the Alps: It combines the villages of St. Anton, Zürs, Lech, Warth, and Schröcken. Skiers know it as a playground of legendary slopes and thrilling descents (some also say, skiing was invented here by Hannes Schneider). Conveniently, Alber Sport & Fashion, with its rental shop, is just across the street.
A compact yet thoughtful gym for those who can’t skip a workout. A striking bar that feels both grand and intimate. Clean, understated design that whispers elegance. And a culinary scene that surprises at every turn.
The Hotel
Arriving feels almost cinematic: you drive your car into an elevator, descending straight into the underground garage. From there, the path leads to the reception and a lounge that manages to be both sleek and inviting. Bright and modern, yet cozy, with an open fireplace and soft lounge chairs — the perfect spot for a post-ski drink. Adjacent lies the restaurant, where breakfast is served, and the Ullr Kachelstube, where Michael himself hosts his gourmet dinners.
Dining
Food is at the heart of this house. In the intimate gourmet restaurant, Michael crafts a tasting menu under the banner “Ullr Casual Fine Dining.” Expect dishes rooted in the region, elevated with creativity and finesse, often reaching star-level quality — but always personal, always his own. Guests preferring a more traditional setting can enjoy the larger dining room, part of the half-board package that comes highly recommended.

The Rooms
Interior designer Stefanie Thatenhorst of Munich gave the Ullrhaus its distinctive look: modern, yet warm and livable. Standard doubles offer around 30 square meters of cozy, well-appointed space, while the larger apartments, complete with kitchen, living area, and multiple bedrooms, are ideal for families or longer stays.
Wellness
Skiing all day is demanding here, so the wellness area offers just the right balance of relaxation: sauna, steam bath, elegantly designed massage and relaxation rooms, and a small indoor pool for a refreshing swim. Not vast, but thoughtful and stylish.
The Surroundings
St. Anton is legendary. Known internationally as one of the premier ski destinations in the Alps, its slopes challenge and delight. The renowned Arlberg Ski School offers expert instruction, making the area accessible to all levels. But St. Anton is not just for winter. Summer brings alpine hiking, sweeping panoramas, and culinary delights that make the region increasingly popular year-round.
Ideal for
The Ullrhaus is a retreat for those who seek more than just a place to stay. It’s for travelers who want a week of alpine adventure, fireside conversations, fine dining, and heartfelt hospitality. Whether as a couple, with friends, or with family. This is the kind of alpine getaway that lingers long after you’ve returned home.
