The House
At Dai Grésy, the experience begins well before you arrive. Blame it on the truly picturesque hills of Dolcetto and Nebbiolo vineyards you drive through to reach the new 11-room hotel. As the grapes suggest, this is one of the most spectacular wine regions of the Langhe and Piedmont, just an hour’s drive south of Turin.
The agriturismo Dai Grésy in Langa sits right at the top, geographically and in terms of quality: an Eden on earth, made for a perfect and, above all, relaxing vacation. It is a passion project of the di Grésy winemaking family, who have bottled excellent wines since 1973 at Martinenga, the main estate of the Tenuta Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Grésy, just five minutes away.
Dai Grésy is run mainly by Ludovica di Grésy and her brother Alessandro, who welcome guests in the family’s old farmhouse. Halfway between a farm and a charming new guesthouse, Dai Grésy captures the special spirit of its surroundings. The atmosphere is relaxed, the service attentive, the design contemporary, the view spectacular: vineyards and fields as far as the eye can see.
The small village of Treiso lies in front of the hotel, but the view extends as far as Monferrato and, on clear days, even further to the Cottian Alps and Monviso. The hotel’s concierge goes the extra mile to help you explore the area. Take your pick: romantic osterie, simple trattorias, Michelin-starred restaurants, famous wineries and, of course, the Piedmont truffle, the star of the region from October to January. In season, join an organized truffle hunt with a local expert, followed by a table reserved at a restaurant to taste the spoils.
The Rooms
Dai Grésy was renovated by the architect Elena Bellincioni (Ludovica and Alessandro’s cousin), while the garden was designed by Axel Boerr (Ludovica’s fiancé). The house has nine rooms and two vacation apartments with a kitchen and a living room. Everything is built with natural materials and reclaimed wood, and old family furniture mixed with contemporary pieces makes for an eclectic look. Each room is different, and each is enriched from time to time with personal finds.
Wellness
The saltwater infinity pool seems endless, with truly breathtaking views of the landscape. The spa is a real plus, especially in the cooler months, with a large covered whirlpool, a Turkish bath and saunas with a relaxation room. Another big plus for us: Both the house and the garden were renovated along sustainable lines. There is no plastic on the grounds, and water and energy use are exemplary.
Food
Whenever possible, fruit and vegetables come from the estate’s own permaculture garden. As an agriturismo, Dai Grésy sources the best local produce with great passion. Breakfast is a delicious feast: Everything is handmade, and every ingredient comes from a local producer. Besides the basket of bread and focaccia, you can order dishes à la carte; we had eggs Benedict and homemade muesli.
Dinner follows the same principles and is reserved for hotel guests, which makes it all the more intimate and personal. The menu follows the seasons, the vegetables come from the garden and there are always traditional dishes such as plin (typical Piedmontese ravioli) and vitello tonnato, accompanied, of course, by wines from the family estate. Tastings and winery tours can also be arranged.
